Maryland covid booster8/8/2023 He stressed that local school boards have the authority to make their own decisions. Glenn Youngkin (R) of Virginia - Hogan said he does not. Last month, the universal mask mandate that the State Board of Education approved at the start of the school year was replaced with a new policy will allow schools to lift the mask mandate under any of three conditions: if 80% of staff and students are fully vaccinated, if 80% of the full county population is fully vaccinated or if a county’s COVID-19 transmission rates are low or moderate for 14 consecutive days, as reported by the CDC.Īsked if he plans to issue an executive order making mask-wearing optional in public schools - an action taken by Gov. He did not specify what changes he thinks need to be made, but noted that the end of Maryland’s statewide mask mandate was announced last May. With the state’s infection rate returning to pre-omicron levels, Hogan said his office plans to ask the State Board of Education to consider changes to their masking regulations at their next meeting, scheduled for the end of this month. On Friday, the governor’s mansion, M&T Bank Stadium and Oriole Park at Camden Yards will be lit blue to mark Healthcare Heroes Appreciation Week, and Hogan encouraged Marylanders to wear blue on Friday. Hospital-based testing sites that don’t already offer booster shots will begin doing so. In an effort to reach more residents, the state on Tuesday launched an expanded call and text outreach campaign. “And they are three times as likely to die from COVID-19 if they are not fully protected with a third dose,” the governor said. People who have been vaccinated but not boosted are three times more likely to be hospitalized if they become infected than those who are fully protected. And 95% of the state’s adults and 89% of the population aged five and older have had at least one shot. More than 4.4 million Marylanders are fully vaccinated, according to the state health department. “So, no one should consider themselves fully protected unless you have gotten the booster shot.” “All of the data shows that protection does wane over time,” he said. Nevertheless, Hogan told reporters at a State House news conference, the majority of hospitalizations and deaths in Maryland involve people who are not fully vaccinated. In the four weeks since, infections have declined sharply. 7, driven by the highly-contagious omicron variant. The state’s COVID-19 caseload and resulting hospitalizations spiked on Jan. Winners will be chosen at random, the governor said, and everyone who gets their primary vaccines and boosters in Maryland will automatically be registered to win. Picked by the Maryland lottery, the first winner will take home $500,000, the next ten winners will each receive $50,000, and the May 3 “grand prize” recipient will pocket $1 million. 15, the state’s new vaccine lottery - dubbed VaxCash 2.0 - will offer a dozen weekly prizes. (R) announced on Tuesday.īeginning on Feb. Marylanders who get a COVID-19 booster will be automatically entered to win a cash prize, Gov.

2004 chicago bulls roster8/8/2023 Johnson ( Chicago Tribune Bulls beat reporter, 1996-97, 2000-05, 2006-19): After the dynasty broke up, the Bulls had the worst six-season stretch of losing in NBA history. This is the story of the Baby Bulls, as told by the coaches, the players, and others who lived it. And it’s the first-to-worst Warriors and their fans who are now getting a preview of the precipitous fall that will come for Golden State, as it has for every dynasty. But 15 years later, the misbegotten Boylen Bulls now pitifully limp along on two left feet. That young team gave Chicago basketball fans an invaluable, if illusory, gift: a reason to believe that the Bulls would soon dance again. Gordon asserted himself as the most clutch Bulls scorer since Michael Jordan, earning the nicknames Ben Jordan and Heir Gordon in addition to the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year Award, the only rookie ever to receive the honor. Along the way, the Bulls clawed back from an 0-9 start that tied the franchise-record worst, weathered clashes between Skiles and center Tyson Chandler, and pulled together after the late-season loss of scoring leader Eddy Curry, who was sidelined with a career-altering heart arrhythmia. The story of that Cinderella season, during which the team ground out 47 wins to secure a first post-dynasty playoff berth, is a tale of redemption, the stuff of sports movie mythos: Through hard work and defensive grit, a no-nonsense coach (Scott Skiles) shepherded his dark-horse squad of precocious rookies (Ben Gordon, Luol Deng, Chris Duhon, Andrés Nocioni) and grizzled veterans (Antonio Davis, Adrian Griffin) back into contention, effectively exorcising the stubborn ghosts of recent futility. Superstar free agents thumbing their noses at a once-proud franchise that had become the league laughingstock.īut just as fans were giving up hope along with their season-ticket packages, there came a glimmer of promise: the so-called Baby Bulls of 2004-05. Suffering a 53-point beatdown in November 2001. Winning a franchise-worst 15 games in 2000-01. Scoring 49 points in an April 1999 game, a record low in the shot-clock era. Along with all the losing came innumerable indignities. The team would go on to compile the second-worst six-season record in NBA history: just 119 wins and a dismal 341 losses (including the lockout-shortened 1998-99 season). Holdovers like Ron Harper and Toni Kukoc marveled at the swiftness with which the Unstop-a-Bulls had become the Replace-a-Bulls-guys with names like Rusty LaRue and Kornél Dávid, the league’s first Hungarian player.įollowing the last dance, the Bulls organization suddenly found itself learning to walk again. Steve Kerr was sent to San Antonio, Luc Longley to Phoenix. Pippen went to Houston in a sign-and-trade. In the 10 days that followed, Bulls general manager Jerry Krause (widely blamed for the breakup) went about dismantling the dynasty and selling it for parts. On January 13, 1999, in the midst of the bitterly waged lockout, Jordan retired from the NBA for a second time. Jackson rode off into the sunset on a motorcycle to begin a yearlong sabbatical. “No matter what happens, my heart, soul, and love will still be in the city of Chicago.”Ĭhants of “One more year!” rose from the tearful crowd. “Nobody knows if we’re going to be in Grant Park next year,” Michael Jordan said, with a bit more ambiguity. “It’s been a great run,” Scottie Pippen added. “This was our last dance, and it was a wonderful waltz,” Bulls head coach Phil Jackson said from the park’s band shell stage. With hundreds of thousands of fans assembled in Chicago’s Grant Park on June 16, 1998, to celebrate the third title of a second three-peat, the end of that decade’s great NBA dynasty could no longer be denied.

Conspiracy theory iceberg original8/7/2023 More recently, the Associated Press reports Titanic wreckage has been recovered with the ship’s unique construction identification number (CIN) the 401 being irrefutable evidence that it wasn’t an ill-fated cover up. The Titanic had a “unique café and enlarged á la carte restaurant ,” Chirnside writes, and was modified based on the company’s earlier experience with the Olympic. “As it was, White Star could only expect to recoup two-thirds of the ship’s value.”Ĭlosely examined, none of the Olympic/Titanic claims can hold up to the phenomenal effort that was needed for the switch: the two ships were not exactly identical. “Were there a conspiracy, one would expect that the insurance policy would have been changed to cover the entire value of the ship,” Chirnside writes. Franklin, who confirmed that the insurance policy was $5 million. Quoting Ismay, “the Titanic ‘cost $7,500,000’-and was insured ‘for $5,000,000, I understand.’” This is backed up by the IMM’s American Vice President, Philip A. In 2005, he examined the insurance argument-that the ship would be intentionally sunk to claim the insurance benefits. Historian Mark Chirnside has also devoted serious time to the question of why, exactly, the switch would be made. Morgan was behind the switch, eager to use an inferior ship to drown his enemies onboard. Other conspiracy theorists claim a more nefarious reasoning for the sinking: J.P. The only thing that ruined the plan was an iceberg. So, the company made a switch: its newly built second ship would take on the name Olympic, while its damaged older ship would be re-purposed to be the Titanic.Įventually, the true Olympic (now secretly operating as the Titanic) would be scuttled in an accident from which the White Star Line could collect an insurance payment befitting a brand-new ship-all while the ship originally built as the Titanic would have lived on. The lawsuit meant repairs would not be covered by insurance, and it was drawing no money while sitting around the docks. The Olympic crash is where paths diverge.Īfter the crash, conspiracy theorists claim, the Olympic was an economic disaster. Kirk and Sons of Cowes/Heritage Images/Getty Images // Getty ImagesĮverything above is generally agreed to be fact. The tear in the hull of the Olympic after the Hawke incident. Three ships were commissioned: the Olympic, the Titanic, and the Britannic. If they couldn’t match the Lusitania’s speed, Olympic-class ships would outclass Cunard ships: they’d be even bigger, and more luxurious. Bruce Ismay began work on what came to be known as Olympic-class ships. With Morgan’s permission, White Star chairman J. (IMM), a holding company bankrolled by famed financier J.P. In 1902, White Star had become a property owned by the International Mercantile Marine Co. This time around, the company had some extra backing. The company was no stranger to such battles, but Cunard’s Lusitania and Mauretania had outgunned White Star’s so-called “Big Four” ships in terms of top speed. To compete with the Lusitania and its mate, White Star Line entered into a giant ship war. Locally, it had a fierce rivalry with the Cunard Steamship Company, Ltd., which in 1906–07 had sent on its maiden voyage the world’s then-largest passenger ships, the Lusitania and the Mauretania. The British White Star Line had stiff competition in England and across the globe. What’s more, the conspiracy theory suggests, the entire crash was an insurance scam gone wrong. Rather, the White Star Line swapped ships for the voyage from Southampton to New York, and the ship billed as the top-of-the-line Titanic was actually an older ship: the Olympic. You’re required to create a single, “strong” password with 10 characters specifically for this service. Of course, the burning question is this: Doesn’t having one password to protect your information defeat the purpose? The idea behind 1Password is to not use the same easily determined password for every online and offline account you use. The subscription even provides 1GB of online storage to play host to your sensitive files. With the subscription service, you can store all kinds of sensitive information including credit card numbers, bank account numbers, social security numbers, your physical address, your telephone, and more. You could even use the password generator tool to create new passwords for your current accounts.īut 1Password isn’t just about passwords. Once you’re up and running, you can then use 1Password to generate passwords for all new accounts you create online. You’re assigned a unique master key, but you can choose the associated “master” password that’s assigned to that key. The goal of 1Password is just that: To remember one password. There’s a 30-day free trial too so you can give the service a test run. Both plans cover all devices ranging from Windows 10 to iOS to Android. You also need a subscription to the service, which costs $36 per year for a single user, or $60 per year for five users (family plan). For it to work, you need version 6.7 or newer of the desktop client for Windows installed. Unfortunately, the extension isn’t a stand-alone product. After that, you should be good to go: the button now parks next to the three-dot Settings button. Locate 1Password, click the “Get” button, and it’s installed. Diy seed dome8/7/2023 These cells are ideal since they are usually made of a porous material that allows for water absorption and roots, when big enough, to grow right through the walls. Seeds that require 70-degree soil to germinate will clearly need to be started indoors in cold-weather climates since the soil does not get adequately warm until late into May.Ī seed starting tray is the easiest way to start seeds indoors for beginners and expert gardeners. The package may also suggest an optimal soil temperature for seeds to germinate. Soil needs: Some seeds can be started in ordinary potting soil, while others require a porous, fine-grained seed-starting mix.If so, starting them indoors may require a fluorescent grow light-or you may need to reserve your sunniest window for seed-starting. Light and water needs: The seed package will tell you if the seeds need lots of light. If you want tomatoes in July, this means the seeds need to be started in early April. Some tomato plants take as much as 100 days to reach fruit-producing maturity. Days to maturity: This will tell you how long the plants take to produce edible fruit or ornamental flowers. For other species it may be optional, and for other fast-growing species, there may be no indoor starting information at all-these plants are best planted directly in the outdoor garden. For some species (tomatoes, for example), it is virtually mandatory to start seeds indoors in cold-weather climates.

Automatic systems accomplish this by consistently monitoring your grid power supply. In the event that your business loses power, the automatic switch will instantly change your supply from grid to generator, with less than a second of interruption in your supply of power. Each connected circuit (which is chosen at the time of installation) is protected individually with surge protectors that comes as a part of your manual transfer switch product.Īn automatic generator transfer switch (ATS) works in much the same way, only the process is entirely automated. By applying this make/break system, you avoid currents and arcs that can occur without the break, making a transfer switch exceptionally safe in addition to much faster than operating a generator without the switch. These circuits are isolated using a “make and break” system that when operated, swaps your grid power for generator power. How a transfer switch works differs depending on whether you’re using an automatic or manual transfer switch.Ī manual generator transfer switch (MTS) works by isolating determined circuits you want powered in the event of an outage. Always exercise caution when installing a generator transfer switch. These documents can be downloaded on the Resources tab on each of our product pages. 200 amp battery isolator made in usa8/7/2023 When choosing isolating diodes/relays, always keep in mind the maximum possible charging current. However, this makes the charging process more complicated, as either the alternator, the generator or the charger has to recharge the batteries one by one. This, of course, means that the charging system must also be isolated. Here it is important that these individual battery groups do not interfere with each other and are insulated. On-board installations often comprise two or more battery groups, such as starter battery, supply battery and/or batteries for bow thrusters and navigation equipment. The ARGO FET charging distributors also have a control input for supplying voltage to alternators which require a battery voltage for starting at B+. The voltage drop is less than 0.02 V at low currents and only 0.1 V at higher currents. Contact us and we will provide details of where to send a defective product. These charging current distributors use modern MOSFET technology instead of traditional diodes, which allows you to charge two or three batteries simultaneously and with virtually no voltage loss. Senator Wyden authored a 2021 bill that would impose “anti-deferral” tax accounting for billionaires. In 2019, Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) issued a white paper exploring options for implementing a system of progressive mark-to-market taxation and/or lookback taxation of capital gains, wherein investors face an interest penalty for deferring gains. In 2020, Senator Michael Bennet (D-CO) explored accrual taxation of capital gains. Lawmakers have recently been exploring reforms aimed at limiting the tax benefit of capital gains deferral. Scholars and lawmakers have proposed reforms aimed at limiting the tax benefit of capital gains deferral, ranging from reforming stepped-up basis at death to taxing all gains on an accrual basis. Second, asset basis is “stepped up” to its market value at the time of death or charitable donation, so those who plan to leave an asset in an estate to their children can avoid capital gains tax entirely.Īll else equal, the tax benefit of deferral is economically inefficient: it encourages investors to make portfolio allocation decisions based on tax considerations unrelated to real production. First, due to the time value of money, taxpayers can reduce the net present value of tax liability by choosing to defer realizations. The lock-in effect arises for two reasons. The discretionary nature of capital gains taxation thus creates a “lock-in effect” because the longer an investor holds appreciating property before selling, the lower the real tax burden on investment returns. Investors decide when, and in some cases whether, to pay taxes on investment gains. The tax treatment of capital gains differs from that of other income types because taxation occurs upon realization rather than accrual.
